Forever In Despair - Leaving This World Behind

Variant
Here’s kind of a deep cut for ya! I’m sure you are not surprised at this point that we’ve got ANOTHER 187 band on deck. It’s the incredible Forever In Despair!

FID is one of those “if you know you know” bands. They were a veritable supergroup, with its members going on to make some the biggest and influential bands of the time (You do know ABACABB, right?). Not that this release is just a “oh look its proto-ABACABB” type of deal – I honestly prefer the FID output to almost any deathcore EP at the time.

Leaving The World Behind is from that era of deathcore where the vocals were less precious and concerned about “sick highs” and “br00tal lows.” The song structures are mathy and so unique. It’s a technical, frantic deathcore tour-de-force that you just don’t hear a lot of in 2021 (and actually not a lot in 2007 either).

I remember this CD dropped and it was just so unlike anything I was hearing at the time. Makes sense that it was on 187 as they were always breaking new stuff like this. That album art was iconic and just really gave the thing an air of mystery. What it lacks in number of songs it more than makes up for in texture and atmosphere. It’s not just a collection of singles – like this is an era appropriate EP and the whole things is just one experience front to back.

It’s those clicky drums, the off-kilter start/stop nature and the FEEDBACK BABAY. LTWB is just raw and oppressive. You may not be a deathcore fan, but I think it’s so far removed from the early 2000s run of the mill stuff that you’ll find something to enjoy. At the very least I know there are a few MONSTER BREAKDOWNS TO GET EARGASMED TOO xxxBASS BOOSTEDxxx PART 37 moments for all Myspace lads out there.

Art was handled by Ben and I think does a killer job of paying homage to original landscape, while also adding a bit of 2021 charm. No beating the original but I think the colors and texture are a lot of fun on this one! I’m sure you can tell, but all of these instas were made back in like late 2019 – I think its such a fun time capsule back to early/peak WV stuff!

Audio was again done by Zach at Third Eye, and this is one of the cleaner ones! I promise you’ve never heard this EP like this! And maybe even some bonus tracks? Who knows!
